Who I AM…
Jesus Vasquez is a self-taught photographer born in Bakersfield, California, and raised in the quiet town of Lamont. He spent much of his life observing the beauty of the stillness, emptiness, and vastness of his surroundings. Based in the Central Valley, Vasquez primarily focuses on landscape and portrait photography that evokes a sense of emptiness intertwined with beauty and mystery. His work often showcases cinematic moods inspired by films and anime like Akira, Tokyo Ghoul, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Spirited Away, influencing his atmospheric and emotionally charged compositions.
For over nine years, Vasquez has worked at KBAK/KBFX, where he spent several years as a photographer covering national and local stories, including wildfires, mass shootings, and political events. This experience sharpened his ability to capture moments of truth and emotion under intense conditions, blending photojournalistic precision with his artistic side. Vasquez brings a cinematic approach to every image, emphasizing color, tone, depth, and mood.
Through his photography, Vasquez seeks to reveal the quiet narratives hidden in
everyday places. Finding meaning in stillness and beauty in solitude is his passion. His images reflect both the emptiness and wonder that coexist in the modern world.
